Content Description Per NFPA's requirements, when purchasing NFPA 2021 Standards and/or 2020 NFPA 70 (NEC), you must subscribe to at least one more NFPA Standard to complete your purchase. In order to fulfill this requirement, we automatically add 2019 NFPA 900 to your cart. This title may be removed during checkout if you choose to add a different NFPA standard to your cart, and pricing will be recalculated accordingly.
Consult the new first edition of NFPA 1891, Standard on Selection, Care, and Maintenance of Hazardous Materials, CBRN, and Emergency Medical Operations Clothing and Equipment, for the most up-to-date requirements for the selection, care, and maintenance of Hazmat/CBRN protective equipment.
In conjunction with NFPA 1990, Standard for Protective Ensembles for Hazardous Materials and CBRN Operations, which sets the performance requirements for the types and protection levels of ensembles for Hazmat/CBRN, NFPA 1891, Standard on Selection, Care, and Maintenance of Hazardous Materials, CBRN, and Emergency Medical Operations Clothing and Equipment, establishes procedures for the selection of protective equipment. The standard covers ensembles, not individual clothing items.
The 2022 edition of NFPA 1891, Standard on Selection, Care, and Maintenance of Hazardous Materials, CBRN, and Emergency Medical Operations Clothing and Equipment, has been under development for more than 30 years.
This first edition of the standard includes a number of important requirements for selecting PPE for particular operations and hazard levels, as well as the following:
Guidelines on identifying exposure threats and conditions at the response or operations scene to help select the appropriate protective equipment for hazardous materials emergencies, CBRN incidents, or emergency medical operations (Hazmat/CBRN/EMO)
A decision matrix in Annex B that establishes a standardized approach to the selection process
Extensive information in Annex A to aid AHJs with recommended approaches for attaining compliance
Detailed guidance on ensemble inspection, cleaning, and decontamination
Utilize NFPA 1891, Standard on Selection, Care, and Maintenance of Hazardous Materials, CBRN, and Emergency Medical Operations Clothing and Equipment, to create your own Hazmat/CBRN/EMO protective equipment program.
The requirements for a Hazmat/CBRN/EMO protective equipment program include guidance on inspection and testing, cleaning and decontamination, service and repair, storage, retirement, documentation and records, and test methods.
