Give department personnel the training to stay up to date with the operation, care, use, and maintenance of thermal imaging technology utilized in fire service operations.
The use of thermal imagers (TIs) is increasingly prevalent in firefighting and other emergency services. NFPA® 1408, Standard for Training Fire Service Personnel in the Operation, Care, Use and Maintenance of Thermal Imagers, offers general criteria for providing fire service personnel with the instruction to help effectively use thermal imagers in a variety of operations and applications.
The standard intends to increase knowledge and proficiency of the operation, use, application, and limitations of thermal imaging. Requirements apply to all types of situations and activities ranging from fire attack, search, overhaul, and motor vehicle accidents to investigations, size-ups, hazardous material incidents, electrical emergencies, and urban search and rescue. NFPA 1408 is adaptable to variable conditions and serves as a tool for the evaluation of satisfactory performance during training.
Content covers:
Thermal imager training program components
Training policies and procedures
Instructor requirements
Student prerequisites and more
