Description of BS 5252:1976 1976This British Standard establishes a framework within which 237 colours have been selected as the source for all building colour standards and the means of co-ordinating them. It is not itself a range of colours for any particular product and is not to be used to specify British Standard colours. A colour is only standardized when it is included in another British Standard, such as those that have been derived for paints (BSÂ 4800), vitreous enamel (BSÂ 4900), plastics (BSÂ 4901) and sheet and tile flooring (BSÂ 4902). Such standards contain only a proportion of the total colours in this British Standard, selected to meet design requirements within relevant technical and economic constraints. Comprises folder containing a colour chart consisting of 237 colours, a chart showing their approximate Munsell references and text which includes explanations of the visual attributes, hue, greyness, lightness and weight. It is not for specification purposes and it should be noted that a colour is only a British Standard colour when it appears in a standard derived from it for a particular product or function. For colour matching purposes larger colour patches are published in BS 5252F. British Standards for colour ranges derived from BS 5252 are BS 4800, BS 4900, BS 4901, BS 4902, BS 4903, BS 4904 and BS 6770.
