Description of BS 4317-11:1976 1976This International Standard specifies a method for the determination of glycosidic hydrocyanic acid in pulses. The method is generally applicable but may require modification if sulphides or certain other sulphur compounds are present. Conversely, if no such compounds are present, a mercurimetric titration procedure may be used, details of which are given in the Annex. Method involving enzymic or acid hydrolysis of glycosides, steam distillation of hydrocyanic acid liberated and then determination of the acid quantity by direct titration using silver nitrate or by back titration using ammomium thiocyanate.
