Description of BS 1842:1952 1952This British Standard relates to spanners having open-ended jaws suitable for hexagons in the B.A. (British Association) range as given in BS 57, “B.A. bolts, screws, nuts and washers.” Details of material and hardness are included together with dimensions and tolerances on the jaw openings. There shall be two categories, designated spear-head and round-head, which are illustrated at the head of Table 1 and Table 2 respectively. Each spanner shall be double-ended and the range of jaw openings shall be that given in Clause 4. Dimensions, manufacture, material of spear-head and round-head spanners. Sizes and relationship of sizes on each spanner. Spear-head spanners with alternative angles of head: one with both heads inclined at 15°, the other with one head in line with the axis and opposite head inclined at 45°. For B.A. hexagon bolts and nuts to BS 57 or hexagon bars and rods of similar sizes.
