Description of ASTM-D4872 2010ASTM D4872 - 99(2010)Standard Test Method for Dielectric Testing of Wire and Cable Filling CompoundsActive Standard ASTM D4872 | Developed by Subcommittee: D09.18 Book of Standards Volume: 10.02 ASTM D4872Significance and Use Dissipation factor, permittivity and dc volume resistivity are properties of communication cable fillers and filler components that are controlled in order that the cableelectrical performance falls within its design limits. Relatively small amounts of contaminants, such as polar compounds, water or salts, degrade the cableelectrical properties. Limits on the dielectric properties of the cable filling compound are usually specified by the cable manufacturer, by industry standards or both. 1.
