Description of ASTM-D3307 2010ASTM D3307 - 10Standard Specification for Perfluoroalkoxy (PFA)-Fluorocarbon Resin Molding and Extrusion MaterialsActive Standard ASTM D3307 | Developed by Subcommittee: D20.15 Book of Standards Volume: 08.02 ASTM D3307Abstract This specification covers melt processable molding and extrusion materials of PFA-perfluoro(alkoxy alkane) fluorocarbon resin. The materials are copolymers of TFE-fluorocarbon resins containing perfluoroalkoxy side chains. This specification is intended to provide a means for calling out plastic materials used in the fabrication of end items or parts. This specification covers 13 types of PFA-fluorocarbon resins supplied in pellet form for molding and extrusion. The materials shall be of uniform composition and so prepared as to conform to the requirements specified. Conditioning, melt flow rate, melting endotherm peak temperature, specific gravity, tensile properties, and dielectric constant and dissipation factor tests shall be performed to conform with the requirements specified. This abstract is a brief summary of the referenced standard. It is informational only and not an official part of the standard; the full text of the standard itself must be referred to for its use and application. ASTM does not give any warranty express or implied or make any representation that the contents of this abstract are accurate, complete or up to date. 1. Scope 1.1 This specification covers melt processable molding and extrusion materials of PFA-perfluoro(alkoxy alkane) fluorocarbon resin. The materials are copolymers of TFE-fluorocarbon resins containing perfluoroalkoxy side chains. These materials were formerly the subject of this specification and Specification D6314 . 1.2 This specification is intended to provide a means for calling out plastic materials used in the fabrication of end items or parts. It is not intended for the selection of materials. Material selection should be made by those having expertise in the plastics field after careful consideration of the design and the performance required of the part, the environment to which it will be exposed, the fabrication process to be employed, the costs involved, and the inherent properties of the material other than those covered by this specification. 1.3 This specification does not cover recycled plastics. 1.4 The tests involved are intended to provide information for identifying the materials covered. It is not the function of this specification to provide engineering data for design purposes. Specimens prepared by injection molding or extrusion could yield test results that may vary from the values in this specification. 1.5 The values stated in SI units are to be regarded as standard. The values given in parentheses are for information only. 1.6 The following precautionary caveat pertains only to the test methods portions, Sections 8 and 9 of this specification: This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety and health practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use. Note 1This specification, ISO 12086 1(2006), and ISO 12086 2(2006) differ in approach or detail. Data obtained using either may not be technically equivalent.
