Description of ASTM-B955 2011ASTM B955 / B955M - 11Standard Specification for Aluminum-Alloy Centrifugal CastingsActive Standard ASTM B955 / B955M | Developed by Subcommittee: B07.01 Book of Standards Volume: 02.02 ASTM B955 / B955MAbstract This specification covers the standard for aluminum-alloy centrifugal castings. This specification does not cover aluminum-alloy centrifugal castings used in aerospace applications. The castings shall be in accordance to the prescribed chemical composition. Chemical composition shall be determined by analyzing samples at the time the castings are poured, or samples taken from castings or tension test specimens. Unless otherwise stated, the tensile strength, yield strength and elongation of test specimens cut from casting shall be in accordance with the standards prescribed herein. If the specimens fail to conform to tension requirements, test bars representative of the castings may be retested in accordance with the replacement tests and retest provisions. This abstract is a brief summary of the referenced standard. It is informational only and not an official part of the standard; the full text of the standard itself must be referred to for its use and application. ASTM does not give any warranty express or implied or make any representation that the contents of this abstract are accurate, complete or up to date. 1. Scope 1.1 This specification covers aluminum-alloy centrifugal castings designated as shown in Table 1. 1.2 This specification is not intended for aluminum-alloy centrifugal castings used in aerospace applications. 1.3 Alloy and temper designations are in accordance with ANSI H35.1 / H35.1 (M). The equivalent unified numbering system alloy designations are in accordance with Practice E527 . 1.4 Unless the order specifies the M specification designation, the material shall be furnished to the inch-pound units. 1.5 For acceptance criteria for inclusion of new aluminum and aluminum alloys and their properties in this specification, see Annex A1 and Annex A2. 1.6 Units The values stated in either SI units or inch-pound units are to be regarded separately as standard. The values stated in each system may not be exact equivalents; therefore, each system shall be used independently of the other. Combining values from the two systems may result in non-conformance with the standard. 1.7 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety and health practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitation prior to use.
