CEU: 0.025 | CEU Code: CL-EN-170602-1224

The first course of this series from the Carbon Leadership Forum provides a high-level overview of embodied carbon: how it is defined, its significance in the global climate crisis, and how it is impacted by the construction industry. In addition, the course examines procurement policies as an embodied carbon reduction strategy'in particular, the Buy Clean policies, their uptake in the US, and their key elements.

Learning Objectives

  • Define embodied carbon and describe methods for reducing embodied carbon in your projects.
  • Describe the Buy Clean procurement policy and its three core elements.

Faculty BIO

The Carbon Leadership Forum propels knowledge through its embodied carbon research and resources, collaboration through its robust network of architects, engineers, contractors, material suppliers, building owners, policymakers, and associations, and action by supporting and empowering its members to advance new ideas and approaches through impactful initiatives. The Carbon Leadership Forum is an organization at the University of Washington working with thousands of professionals from across the world to radically reduce the carbon emissions associated with building materials and construction (also known as embodied carbon). In partnership with leaders from architecture, engineering, and construction firms, NGOs, and policy and other key groups, the CLF improves data and methodology, informs effective and just embodied carbon policies, and supports effective technologies and processes to enable material decarbonization.
