Innovations in Window Film for Architectural Applications, 2024

Eastman Performance Films, LLC With the increasing prominence of glass in new buildings and retrofits, the use of window film can raise the style, performance, and safety of today's building projects. This course examines the use of various types of window film (decorative, solar control, and safety/security) and their role in improving occupant comfort and safety, lowering energy costs, and enhancing privacy. 60 minutes.

Learning Objectives

  • Summarize the options and benefits of designing with decorative window film instead of etched glass and how window film can be used to improve the design of a space, ensure visual privacy and comfort, filter light, and hide unsightly views.
  • Discuss how using solar control window film can improve energy efficiency and occupant comfort in commercial and residential spaces.
  • Explain how specifying window films can help achieve sustainable design goals in terms of reducing light pollution and increasing energy performance, thermal comfort, and daylighting and views.
  • Review the features, applications, and types of safety and security window film designed to provide enhanced glass fragment retention and penetration resistance for purposes of personal safety and security.

Faculty BIO

Tony Prater has been specifying building envelope materials and systems for commercial applications for approximately 15 years. He has worked closely with various Facilities Managers, Building Engineers, Architects, and Designers in assisting with project details and specifications. During that time, Tony has also conducted numerous AIA/CES approved presentations, providing resources and continued education for the architectural community.
