Alpine SnowGuards Installing snow retention systems on rooftop applications improves the safety of building occupants and can decrease the risk of property damage. This course identifies different snow guard styles and explains how each contributes to snow retention. Installation techniques are reviewed, and layout designs that maximize occupant safety and minimize hazards are also discussed. 60 minutes.

Learning Objectives

  • Discuss the importance of snow guards in maintaining the safety of building occupants and protecting property from falling snow and ice.
  • Define the styles of snow management systems and explain how they increase safety by helping to prevent avalanching rooftop snow and ice.
  • Identify how roofing design considerations influence the force of snow and ice that transfers to snow guards in order to assess a roof for a snow management system to minimize hazards.
  • Identify the criteria required to calculate snow guard quantities for proper layout that ensures adequate protection for occupants and the surrounding property.
